Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit – a way of putting down – a bullying – My father, who was not a showy man or confident, knew this. He’d never pay a complement except when made without a dig at circumstance or chance. He’d never say ‘a man like you must surely know’ and engrandise himself by showing lower other he was upper shelf. Sarcasm’s my one pet hate above almost all else.
